What Was I Worrying About Again?

Not sure if any of you have seen the SNL skit featuring Will Ferrell imitating Harry Caray, but it is one of my all time favorites!

Harry Caray: Good point! I hpe I never get it. Hey! What about this. If you had the choice of being the top scientist in your field or getting mad cow disease what would it be.

Dr. Ken Waller: well! Of course I would choose to be the the top scientist in my field.

Harry Caray: Oh good! I was worried you’d choose mad cow.

Dr. Ken Waller: Why would you think that.

Harry Caray: I don’t know I’m just a worrier I guess. That’s why my friends call me whiskers.

Dr. Ken Waller: I thought you said your friends call you Whiskers cause you’re curious as a cat.

Harry Caray: Well Dr. Waller it has been a pleasure. We’ve covered a lot of ground and shared a few laughs thanks for coming on.

Hilarious.

Anyway, what does that have to do with worrying at all?

Not much,

but it says the word worry and that’s what I want to talk about today.

worry1

Plain and simple people.

Now, I am not saying that certain things aren’t valid about worrying about,

and if any of you parent like my mother parents,

then you probably worry all the time.

It’s just not healthy.

It’s not good for you.

To sit and obsess and try to prevent every bad thing that can possibly happen to you is unrealistic.

I’m not saying you can sit by and not plan for anything…

Example: “Eh I’ll worry about how I am going to make money after I retire when I get there….”

Not good either.

Things are not always going to go your way. They are very likely not to.

Think back five years,

are you anywhere where you thought you would be?

Some of you may be, and that is awesome for you, but I certainly am not.

If you would have asked 17 year old Emily where she thought she would be in five years I would have said

“Graduated College, Working, Living at home, Still friends with all my high school gals…”

EMILY TODAY is a much different picture.

Divorced, Starting my third semester in college, living with my serious boyfriend (who happens to be quite a bit older than me) and holding on to one friendship from high school)

I mean, there is no way I could have seen any of that coming, at all.

But I dealt with all those things, good and bad, as they came. Because that’s life.

Life is constantly moving. Everything is. It’s fast and messy and beautiful and tragic and something that cannot really be planned.

So plan for what you can.

Be prepared for as much you can

But also stop the worrying about the unknown.

Don’t be careless, don’t be reckless but also don’t rot in worry.

Do not forget to enjoy life because you are too worried about what will come your way.

Worry free is the way to be.
